Australia tests hybrid ground-based air defense system, shoots down BQM-74E target drone at Woomera
Australia tested a prototype medium-range ground-based air defense system during Exercise Taipan Strike 2026 at the Woomera test range. An SM-2 interceptor launched from a trailer-mounted launcher was used to engage and shoot down a BQM-74E target drone using a virtualized Aegis combat system and a CEA phased-array radar.
