Germany contracts Rheinmetall and MBDA to develop naval laser weapon aimed at countering drones

Germany’s armed forces procurement office signed a contract with MBDA Deutschland and Rheinmetall to develop a high-energy laser weapon system for German Navy vessels, intended in part for counter-drone defense. The program builds on a laser demonstrator previously deployed on the frigate Sachsen during extended testing.
