A Ukrainian Defence Intelligence post says insurgents ambushed a колонна of Russian "African Corps" and Malian junta forces near Tabrishat in the Gao area in early July 2026. The post claims Russian forces withdrew and did not provide ground or air support despite having Orion UAVs and Mi-24/Mi-8 helicopters. It alleges at least 60 Malian soldiers were killed, 30 captured, and dozens wounded.
