Pentagon DIU seeks Massed Modular Aircraft as expendable MQ-9 Reaper alternative

The Pentagon’s DIU is soliciting the Massed Modular Aircraft (MMA): a cheaper, long-range, heavy-payload UAV intended to be fielded in large numbers as an expendable replacement for MQ-9 missions. Novelty is the combination of MQ-9-like payload/range with massed employment and higher autonomy (one operator controlling multiple aircraft) to overwhelm layered air defenses and sustain losses.
