The US Army is scaling a new reserve advisory unit (Detachment 201) that directly commissions senior tech executives to accelerate adoption of AI, autonomy, and counter-drone capabilities. It also revamped direct commissioning to cut onboarding from ~18 months to ~6, a process innovation aimed at faster integration of commercial expertise into military modernization.
