The U.S. Army is initiating the Affordable High Speed Strike (AHSS) effort for a lower-cost theater strike missile exceeding 1,000km range, with concepts including ballistic-like and air-breathing (ramjet/scramjet-style) designs. The program also envisions launch from existing HIMARS podded launchers and future uncrewed launcher vehicles, expanding mobile long-range conventional strike options against air bases and air defenses.
