U.S. Navy seeks 10 commercial tankers for CONSOL at-sea refueling expansion

The U.S. Navy is pursuing a rapid logistics expansion by acquiring commercial-spec “non-developmental” medium-range tankers to support consolidated replenishment at sea (CONSOL). Using commercial designs and shipyards aims to quickly add fuel distribution capacity and keep combatants out of ports during conflict, supporting distributed Indo-Pacific operations and expeditionary airfields.
