The US Space Force is prototyping small, agile geosynchronous satellites (GHOST-R/RG-XX) to provide high-resolution “space-to-space” optical imagery for tracking and characterizing objects in GEO. The novelty is a move toward lower-cost, maneuverable, commercially-derived buses and payloads (including True Anomaly’s autonomous Jackal vehicle and Mosaic C2) to enable find/fix/track/target of on-orbit threats rather than relying on a few exquisite assets.
