USS Gerald R. Ford to export nuclear power ashore to Naval Station Norfolk

The U.S. Navy plans to demonstrate exporting electrical power from the Ford-class carrier USS Gerald R. Ford to a shore installation, using the ship as a backup baseload power source for energy resilience. While ship-to-shore power is not new, doing it with a Ford-class nuclear carrier at major-base scale could enable more resilient/distributed basing and contingency operations if grids are attacked or disrupted.
