Ukraine Targets Ozon Warehouses in Expanded Drone Strike Campaign

On paper, hitting an e-commerce warehouse looks “cleaner” than hitting a power plant. In practice, it’s a warning shot aimed straight at the nervous system of a country: logistics. And if you build systems that spot drones before they hit, you don’t get to treat that as a distant headline. You read it as a direction of travel.

Public reporting says Ukraine has expanded its long-range drone strikes to target warehouses linked to Ozon, after earlier attacks tied to Wildberries. That’s the core fact. The important detail isn’t the brand names. It’s the choice of target: storage, sorting, distribution. The boring stuff that keeps daily life from breaking.

From our seat as a company that produces drone detection radar systems and AI fusion from different sensors, this is exactly the kind of shift we’ve been expecting—and worrying about. Because once both sides start treating “getting goods from A to B” as a battlefield, the list of targets becomes basically infinite. Warehouses, truck yards, rail junctions, loading docks. Even the parking lot full of vans becomes “strategic” if it’s tied to the flow of supplies.

People will argue this is just part of war. And yes, war is ugly, and both sides look for leverage. But I think targeting commercial logistics is a line that changes the incentives in a dangerous way. It normalizes the idea that civilian-facing infrastructure is fair game as long as it can be framed as “supporting” the war effort. That definition stretches fast.

Here’s the problem: logistics is not just military. It’s food, medicine, replacement parts, and people’s paychecks. Knock out the wrong warehouse and you don’t just slow deliveries. You create local shortages, price spikes, and panic buying. You push more people into fear, and fear makes governments reach for blunt tools.

And blunt tools are the enemy of good security.

Imagine you’re running a regional distribution center. You’re not a general. You’re a manager with KPIs, shift schedules, and a safety officer who already can’t hire fast enough. Now you’re told drones might show up. Do you shut down operations every time someone reports a buzzing sound? Do you harden the roof? Do you move inventory? Do you add guards? Or do you do what many organizations do under stress: pretend it’s not your problem until something burns.

That’s why radar drone detection matters more than ever. Not because it guarantees safety—nothing does—but because it gives you a chance to make decisions based on signals instead of rumors. If you can detect, track, and classify a drone early enough, you can trigger a response that fits the actual threat. That could mean pausing a shift for ten minutes and moving people to a safe zone, rather than shutting a whole site for a day because of a false alarm. It could mean calling local responders with usable information instead of “we think we heard something.”

But let’s be honest: there’s a second, uncomfortable side to this.

As targeting spreads to warehouses and other economic nodes, more private companies will want detection, tracking, and “situational awareness.” Some will ask for it because they genuinely care about worker safety. Others will ask because downtime is expensive and they want to keep trucks rolling no matter what. And governments will absolutely pressure private networks to share data.

That creates a consequence people don’t want to admit out loud: the airspace around civilian sites could turn into a permanent surveillance zone. Once you install sensors, someone will want to use them for more than drones. The temptation is always there. Today it’s “security.” Tomorrow it’s labor monitoring, protest monitoring, or just collecting more data because it exists.

We build detection and fusion systems, not a social control machine. But technology doesn’t get to choose how it’s used. People do. And in wartime, “temporary” measures have a way of sticking around.

There’s also a tactical truth many don’t like: if warehouses become common targets, attackers will adapt fast. They’ll fly lower, smaller, quieter. They’ll mix routes. They’ll use decoys. They’ll aim for gaps in coverage. That means a single sensor type won’t cut it in many settings. You need to combine inputs, cross-check them, and reduce false alarms—because the quickest way to make a site ignore alerts is to flood it with bad ones. That’s not a theory. That’s basic human behavior under pressure.

At the same time, it would be naïve to pretend defenders can protect everything. If the target set is “anything that moves goods,” nobody has enough budget, staff, or hardware to cover every building. So choices will be made. Big sites get protected. Smaller sites don’t. Rich regions get coverage. Poorer regions wait. That unevenness will shape who stays resilient and who gets squeezed.

One more wrinkle: there’s chatter and forecasting floating around about timelines and territorial moves—like claims about Russia entering Sloviansk by December 31, 2026 with a “27.5% YES.” We don’t know what that number is based on, and nobody should plan operations around a percentage posted on social media. But the fact that people are trying to quantify the future like that tells you something real: uncertainty is becoming part of the supply chain.

So where does that leave us? From our perspective, strikes on Ozon warehouses aren’t just another headline. They’re a sign that economic infrastructure is being pulled deeper into the conflict, and that companies will be forced to decide whether they want real risk reduction or just the feeling of control.
