NATO tests 'autonomous zone' concept with UGVs, sensors and linked fires

NATO’s Eastern Flank Deterrence Initiative is developing an “autonomous zone”/kill-zone concept where unmanned systems, networked sensors, and cross-border effectors create a day-zero detection-and-strike layer. Exercises (e.g., Crystal Arrow) are being used to operationally test UGV integration, counter-UAS, and a shared data backbone that can trigger effectors across national boundaries—an emerging doctrine/architecture inspired by Ukraine.
